Our Opinion
Weight-gainers can seem all alike, and Muscletech’s version isn’t much different from what else is out there. We do appreciate the nutritional density that comes with 4 scoops of powder: 30 grams of whey protein concentrate, and 6044mg of their Mass Builder Musclebuilding Matrix. Reading the ingredients label is a general bummer for the health-conscious, the first ingredient listed is maltodextrin, which in itself has a whole slough of problems (especially for those who suffer from celiac disease, as it can be derived from wheat or barley).
Mass Builder Musclebuilding Matrix: What’s in it?
This is what gives Six Star its edge, the “Matrix”. Muscletech included this to help the athlete repair muscle along with gaining pounds. The blend includes Creatine, L-leucine, L-isoleucine, L-valine, L-glutamine, Papain (found in papaya, an enzyme that helps break peptide bonds), and Amylase (an enzyme that helps break down starch into sugars). The amino acids in the blend help the body synthesize protein along with increasing blood flow to the muscles-decreasing repair time and increasing volume!
Overall
This is a good product, and it has a great Matrix blend that helps in the absorption of all the protein. Studies have found the product to be effective, especially if used twice daily, between meals.
